Antidepressant Use During Pregnancy Study

Antidepressants

Antidepressants are among the most commonly used medications during pregnancy. Little is known about the possible effects of continuing or discontinuing antidepressant use during pregnancy on the overall health of the mother and baby. This study is investigating the effect of discontinuing use of antidepressants during pregnancy on maternal behavior as well as on the cognitive and behavioral development of infants.

This study is now closed for enrollment.  If you are enrolled in the study and you have questions about your participation, please contact the coordinator:

The Coordinating Center for this study is located in Montreal, Canada. Three hundred women using antidepressants at recognition of pregnancy and 100 women who are not using antidepressants during pregnancy (controls) will be recruited for this study. If you agree to participate in the study the Research Coordinator will interview you on the telephone during the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy as well as two and twelve months after your delivery. Your child will also have the opportunity to be evaluated by a developmental specialist at 12-months of age in your home.
